Don’t Tell Me. It’s a…

My sister-in-law is pregnant and she recently asked my wife and I to help her throw a party. Instead of finding out the sex of the baby right away, she decided to have a gender reveal party.

If you haven’t heard of them, gender reveal parties are a huge new trend. Couples who are expecting a baby ask that the gender not be revealed to them. Instead, they have the doctor secretly write the sex of the baby down and put it into a sealed envelope. The couple then takes the envelope to a bakery and asks the baker to either use colored frosting or colored cake to identify the sex of the baby. On the day of the party, the couple cuts into the cake to find out if they’re having a boy or a girl.

My sister-in-law asked me to help her make the cards for people to vote if they thought she was having a boy or a girl. My wife and I bought blue and pink paper, and I put together a onesie design that we printed on the paper. As guests arrived, they were asked to either write their name on a blue or a pink onesie to vote.

After everyone was finished with lunch, it was time to find out if my sister-in-law was going to have a boy or a girl. There’s nervous anticipation all around. As the cake comes out, everyone is full of wonder. Will it be lined with blue frosting or pink frosting?

As my sister-in-law cuts into the cake, everyone is pushing forward, trying to get a glimpse of the frosting. Cameras are wildly going off, while chatter fills the air.
